The Human Genetics Community Mourns the Loss of Dr. Charles J. Epstein (1933-2011)
Dr. Charles Epstein was elected President of ASHG in 1996, and served as Editor of the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) Journal for seven years. He received the William Allan Award in 2001 and recently received ASHG's McKusick Leadership Award. From 1990-1991 he served as President of the American Board of Medical Genetics and from 2003-2005 was President of the American College of Medical Genetics. He recently was named recipient of the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award by the American College of Medical Genetics.
Dr. Epstein helped guide human genetics into the molecular age and into the spotlight of modern medicine. He will long be remembered as a leader in the human genetics medical research community nationally and internationally. He died on February 15, 2011, at his home at the age of 77.
