AMP Leadership Award
As the Chair of the Nominating Committee, it is an honor and
pleasure to again highlight the selection of the 2009 AMP
Leadership Awardee. As you know this award is bestowed upon
an individual who has contributed tirelessly to AMP and the
profession. This year the award goes to Debra Leonard.
Debra is a Professor and Vice Chair of Laboratory Medicine
and Director of the Clinical Laboratories at the
Weill Cornell Medical Center. She is one of the founding
members of AMP and has been involved in most committees,
divisions and other professional activities of the
organization. Congratulations to Debra Leonard!
AMP Award for Excellence
It is also my distinct honor and pleasure to announce the recipient
of the 2010 Award for Excellence in Molecular Diagnostics.
AMP's highest award will be bestowed upon Dr. Patrick Brown
at the 2010 Annual Meeting. Dr. Brown is a Professor of
Biochemistry at the Stanford School of Medicine and is well
known for his pioneering work in the field of microarray
analysis which led the way for many of the microarray
platforms and assays we all use today. Dr. Brown's research
group uses diverse experimental and computational methods to
investigate the logic and mechanisms that control a genome's
expression program. The Brown laboratory is systematically
characterizing the genetic scripts that control the
expression of our genes, in normal development and
physiology and in diseases like cancer, with a particular
focus on post-transcriptional regulation. The Brown lab is
also developing strategies and assays for early detection
and diagnosis of cancer. Congratulations to Dr. Patrick
Brown for his outstanding accomplishments and his selection
for this prestigious award.
As the Nominating Committee duties are complete, I would like to
take this time to thank all of the committee members for a
job well done and continued support of AMP:
